Running the Road Less ‘Travel’-ed

I’m not going to lie, the PGA’s Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Conn., has very special meaning to me. It could be because of the memories of going to the tourney with my dad, or the countless laughs shared with some of my closest friends at HYPE’s annual Tee it Up event. It may even be because it will be the site of my first-ever 5K in a few weeks.

Whatever the reason, today’s experience only added to my affection for the tourney. I had an amazing opportunity to attend an event featuring last year’s winner Bubba Watson, and later meet him. Throughout the event, he showcased his easy-going humorous personality, while making many inspiring quotes related to living life, representing the country and giving back to the community.

However, it was his remark about winning last year’s tournament — his first on the PGA Tour — that really struck a cord with me. He noted that “knowing you can do it means so much…”

In light of my quest to run a marathon sometime in the next year, I couldn’t help but think about the statement over and over and over again. I think it’s one that will stick with me until I finish that big race. Until then, I’ll keep running and pushing myself to travel uncharted territory. And of course, you’re more than welcome to join me.

Until later – RR

Note: Very special thanks to JD and CT for making this opportunity possible, to my good friend “Hannibal” for allowing me to use this photo in the blog, and R for letting me be in the picture!
